Ni (fr) // Hypnodrone Ensemble (ca-de)

After last year's PinioL performance, now they return as a four headed monster in stead of a seven headed one, for Piniol are ni. and PoiL combined. They share the stage with Hypnodrone Ensemble, with their highly developed 'new Post Rock'.

Hypnodrone Ensemble (ca/de-be)

Canadian experimental guitarists Aidan Baker (of Nadja, Caudal, etc.) & Eric Quach (aka Thisquietarmy) formed Hypnodrone Ensemble in Berlin in 2014, along with drummers Felipe Salazar (Caudal, Muerte En Pereira), Jérémie Mortier (Alice in the Cities, Nearest Gas Station), and Dave Dunnett (Man Meets Bear), to create music combining atmospheric, psychedelic textures with motorik, propulsive polyrhythms. Their live, debut self-titled release came out in 2015 on Belgium's Consouling Sounds in conjunction with an appearance at Incubate Festival and their studio-recorded full-length, The Shape of Space, was released in 2015 on LP by Berlin's Calostro Recordings and CD by Manchester's Little Crack'd Rabbit Records. The group's second full-length, ...Plays Orchestral Favourites, recorded as an expanded 9-piece ensemble, was released in October 2018 on Wolves & Vibrancy Records.

Ni (fr - Lyon)

Four-headed monster,

the big bad Ni has left the linear roads of France

in order to live in a complex world paced

by electrical sounds and varying polyrhythms.

In its temple, shouts of the quartet make the windows crack,

a stunning nervousness makes the walls stand and, finally,

the strong foundations remove from ages to come all doubts

regarding the durability of all these things.

Inside, it is always like a squall:

children run in all directions and parents dance around the bonfire.

The waltz, the 4/4 time signature and verse and chorus structures

take one last breath before being burned to ashes at the core of this fire.

We could make it simple and say that Ni is an instrumental rock band. We would stop there and we would stock up a good coffee, look at the cover of their last album saying that it feels good to enjoy the balcony, that spring returns, and that we would listen to the birds sing all the afternoon, that it was a long time.

To complicate things a little, it looks like Ni is a four-headed monster. A big bad Ni, who would have traded the linearity of the roads of the Ain in which he comes against impossible architectures, which hold with great reinforcement of electricity and polyrhythms stateless. In his temple, the quartet pierces the windows with shouts, though the high walls hold thanks to virtuoso nervousness and the quality of the foundations dispels any doubt as to the potential resistance of the bazaar for centuries to come. Inside, the gust continues, children run around and their parents dance around a big bonfire in the middle of which the waltz, the verse-chorus form and the 4/4 measures release a last rattle. before being reduced to ashes.
